Recently, I had the opportunity to work with my longtime client, MotoMinded, on a photoshoot that showcased their innovative products. Based on Colorado's Western slope, MotoMinded is renowned for its clever moto products, and their team's passion for riding is infectious. With my years of photography experience and the ability to navigate challenging terrain on a bike, we embarked on a two-day shoot, capturing captivating moments through photos, videos, and timelapse photography.

Day One: Exploring MotoMinded's Workshop
Our journey began in MotoMinded's impressive workshop, where the magic happens. As the company utilizes cutting-edge technology, including a gang of 3D printers, a CO2 laser, 3D scanners, and resin printers, there was an abundance of visual delights to capture. While one camera documented the mesmerizing timelapse of 3D printers crafting intricate LED light kits, I roamed the shop, capturing photos and videos, delving into the fascinating details, and showcasing the craftsmanship behind MotoMinded's creations.

Day Two: Conquering the Book Cliffs

Venturing to Grand Junction's Book Cliffs, a playground for dirt biking enthusiasts. First, we scouted locations that embodied the thrill of dirt biking. Then with the team of MotoMinded riders, we captured exhilarating action shots on narrow ridges, steep climbs, and flowing singletrack trails. Carrying a heavy backpack laden with camera gear, I had to skillfully maneuver the trails alongside the riders to capture the perfect shots. Despite the challenges, we maximized our creativity to create compelling content.

As a seasoned Colorado-based photographer, I have been fortunate to combine my love for photography with my skills as a bike rider. This unique blend enables me to access incredible locations, capturing the true essence of adventurous pursuits. Collaborating with MotoMinded on this great photoshoot allowed us to create compelling visual content highlighting their innovative products and the thrill of dirt biking.

One of the great things about Colorado is all the sunny days. We claim 300 days of annual sunshine, but it's more like half that number. In contrast, the number of foggy days on the front range can easily be counted on one hand. So it's rare when foggy conditions align perfectly with an adventure motorcycle photo shoot scheduled the month prior. The day starts with me excitedly looking out the front window to confirm the weather. I grab an extra jacket and camera gear, jump in the truck, and head to our predawn call time. Everyone is on time, and I can't wait to get my camera out and start shooting rad pictures. The rest of the day was a blur, exploring some of our favorite back roads and making exciting new content for the client. And as per usual, Colorado didn't disappoint and delivered a little sun to finish our day.

One of the most enjoyable photo shoots of the past few years for me has been an action and lifestyle shoot for a snowmobile apparel company named Arctiva that takes place in December. A little early for reliable snow reports, but necessary due to scheduling requirements for the catalog. Last year we moved our location from Colorado to Wyoming, both exciting and challenging. With a limited budget, we didn't have time to pre-scout, making it was more of a run and gun photoshoot. Adding to the complexity was uncooperative weather. It was cold, snowy and the light was mostly flat. There's no controlling mother nature, so we just had to make the best of it. Amongst frozen fingers, wind, and sunburns, falling off the back of the sled (more than once), getting my foot ran over by a sled-ski, carrying 30 plus pounds of photo gear on my back, post-holing, lost models, broken equipment, stuck snowmobiles, and getting skunked by sunsets, was the challenge of trying to make beautiful images and keeping the client happy. The demands of the project are probably part of why it is so much fun. It makes getting rad photos that much more satisfying. And it doesn't hurt that we get to ride sleds in amazing locations for a few days as well.
